State Testing Updates

Kindergarten, 1st grade, and 2nd grade students completed their beginning-of-year FAST Reading and Mathematics assessments this week. Students in 3rd, 4th, and 5th grades will begin testing next week. These assessments are the first of three FAST progress monitoring assessments administered throughout the school year. Our goal is for every student to demonstrate at least one year of academic growth by the time they complete the third and final assessment in the spring.

Academic Corner

1. Encourage Effort, Not Perfection
When work becomes challenging, praise your child for sticking with it and trying different strategies. Remind them that mistakes are part of learning and growing.
2. Break Big Tasks Into Smaller Steps
Help your child focus on one small part of an assignment at a time. Completing smaller pieces can make difficult work feel more manageable and build confidence.
3. Ask Questions Instead of Giving Answers
Rather than solving the problem for your child, ask questions like:
  • "What do you already know?"
  • "What strategy could you try?"
  • "Where could you find a clue?"
This helps develop independence and problem-solving skills.
Remember: Productive struggle is an important part of learning. When children work through challenges with support and encouragement, they build resilience, confidence, and perseverance.
