Lawton Families,
I think it's safe to say we've all had enough rain this week. Between the downpours, puddles, and indoor recesses, it's felt a little more like a water park than an elementary school at times.
Even with the weather, our students have been hard at work. Our 3rd graders have been learning about author's purpose and working on division, while our 2nd graders have been focused on finding the central idea of a text.
Our PTA fundraiser is off to an amazing start! Students have already earned so much, and I can't thank you enough for your support. At this rate, I may have to start preparing mentally to kiss a miniature horse. I'm still holding out hope that we can be wildly successful without making that happen.
This week we also recognized our Students of the Month and had our first Lunch with the Principal. Getting to celebrate students and spend some time talking with them is always one of the highlights of my week.
I do need your help with one thing. We've seen an increase in tardies recently. A good day starts with a good beginning, and getting to school on time helps students settle in, connect with their class, and be ready to learn.
One last thing. Students are sometimes surprised when teachers call on them even when their hand isn't raised. That's intentional. We want all students engaged and thinking. It's okay to get an answer wrong. That's called learning. We'll help. Not trying, though, isn't an option. We want our students to have the confidence to take a chance, share their thinking, and be part of the conversation.
Have a great weekend, stay dry, and let's all hope next week's forecast includes a little less water and a little more sunshine.
